Exchange Student Program under Agreement with Partner Universities
(EAP program)

Eligibility

To be eligible, you MUST:

1. be nominated and be a full-time student at our partner universities throughout the mobility

EAP program is available only to the students, nominated by the partner universities under the student exchange agreement with School of Engineering, UTokyo. For nomination, contact your home university.

2. complete the specified years of education by the time of enrollment

- Undergraduate level: At least 14 years of education (incl. first 2 years of undergraduate studies)
- Graduate level: At least 16 years of education (incl. completion of a Bachelor's degree)

3. (if undergraduate) have sufficient level of Japanese language proficiency.

Undergraduates must have JLPT1 since most of the undergraduate courses are offered in Japanese.

REQUIREMENTS

You need to belong to a lab and conduct research. It is very important for applicants to have a clear idea of their research theme and to know which lab they want to belong to before they start applying for the exchange program in order that they may have a productive and fulfilling study period during their exchange. You are NOT allowed to take any classes outside of School/Faculty of Engineering except from Graduate School of Information Science and Technology for Graduate level students. Class Catalogue

4. Credit Transfer:6 Font_Purple_3.jpg

If your home school is party to the Bologna Process, you understand ECTS-Credit transfers. With regard to Credit Transfers, please consult your home university.
Bologna Process

Undergraduate level (first cycle) = 180 - 240 ECTS (3 to 4 years)
Master's level (second cycle) = 60 - 120 ECTS (1 to 2 years)
Doctoral level = the third cycle

Note 1: If you are applying for Graduate level, you do not have to complete first cycle at the time of registration provided that you have reached such level by the time of entry as an exchange student at the University of Tokyo.

Note 2: If you are completing the first cycle (240 ECTS and the final project) in less than 4 years by the time of entry, you can apply as a Graduate level student even if you do not have 16 years of education to be considered as Master's level in Japan. However, you need to have a sufficient document to prove this fact.

You realize the importance of maintaining good health while studying at the University of Tokyo. The School of Engineering does not require you to submit to a Health Check, but needs all applicants to realize the importance of maintaining good health while studying at the University of Tokyo.
Therefore, since the University of Tokyo provides you with an opportunity for a physical and medical check-up after enrolment every April and October, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and be responsible for your physical health.
